Huge Consignment of Illegal Liquor Seized by Mehatiana Police; Three Arrested

In a major breakthrough under the ongoing special drive against drug trafficking and illicit liquor trade, the Mehatiana police seized a large consignment of illegal liquor of various brands and arrested three individuals traveling in a tempo.SHO Parvinderjit Pal Singh of Mehatiana Police Station stated that as per the directives of senior officials, a special blockade had been set up to curb the smuggling of intoxicants and illicit liquor. During the blockade, the police signaled a white tempo (registration number PB-32-J-7324) bearing the “Verka” logo, which was coming from the Phagwara side, to stop. However, the driver attempted to turn the vehicle to flee, but the police pursued and managed to intercept it.The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohit, son of Chhote Lal, resident of Bajwara; Brijesh, son of Heera Lal, resident of Purani Bassi; and Jaspreet, son of Rana, resident of Ravidas Nagar. Upon inspection, the police recovered 70 cases of Punjab Club whisky, 21 cases of Royal Stag, 5 cases each of Royal Challenge and Blender’s Pride, 3 cases of Old Monk rum, and 4 cases of Santra country liquor from the tempo.During interrogation, the accused revealed that the liquor belonged to Lovepreet alias Lavi, a resident of Hoshiarpur. The police have registered FIR No. 119 under sections 61/68/1/14 of the Excise Act and initiated further investigation.
