Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal said that while the district administration is taking strict action against the bad elements involved in the drug trade, proper efforts are being made to rescue the people stuck in the quagmire of drug addiction, so that such persons do not stop taking drugs. and live a normal life. She was addressing as the chief guest in the drug awareness program organized by the District Police on the theme 'Navi Roshni, Navi Umang' at City Center Hoshiarpur today. In this seminar organized under the chairmanship of SSP Sartaj Singh Chahal, AIG (STF) Jagjit Singh Saroa also participated as a special guest while IAS officers Divya P and SP (Headquarters) Manjeet Kaur was also specially present. More than 1100 students from different schools, members of unions, social service organizations and other sectors participated in this seminar.

Addressing the seminar, the Deputy Commissioner said that awareness against drugs is not the work of the administration and police only but it has to be done by all of us together. She said that addiction not only has a bad effect on an individual and his family but also on the entire society. Therefore, let us all resolve in solidarity to end it. He said that the district administration is also starting a campaign against drug abuse in cities and villages. She said that while the district police is taking action against drug sellers by running a campaign against drugs with great seriousness, it is also making people more and more aware, which is a commendable work.

SSP Sartaj Singh Chahal said that the district police is running a campaign against drug addiction with the cooperation of the people and he is sure that this campaign will yield very meaningful results. He said that we have to come forward as open role models and if someone is stuck in the quagmire of drugs, then we have to take initiative for his treatment. While sharing with everyone the anti-drug helpline number 95016-60318 run by the district police, he said that if anyone gets any information regarding drug sellers, they can give information without any hesitation on this number. He said that the identity of the person giving the information will be kept secret. During this time, AIG(STF) Jagjit Singh Saroa also inspired the youth to stay away from drugs and take maximum part in studies and sports activities.

During the seminar, Assistant Director Youth Services Preet Kohli, Dr. Manmohan Dardi, former civil surgeon and social worker Dr. Ajay Bagga, consultant of de-addiction center Sandeep Kumari, apart from famous players and young man Manish Kumar who came out of the quagmire of drug addiction, also participated.
