 Punjab’s Sensei Jagmohan Vij Passes Prestigious WKF Referee ‘A’ Exam in Paris

First from North and Central India to Achieve the Highest Referee Qualification in the World Karate Federation

— Sensei Jagmohan Vij, internationally acclaimed karate referee and coach from Hoshiarpur, Punjab, has achieved a remarkable milestone by successfully passing the World Karate Federation (WKF) Referee ‘A’ examination held during the Referee Course at the 2025 World Karate Championship qualifying event in Paris, France. He becomes the first referee from North and Central India to earn this prestigious qualification — the highest recognitions in global karate refereeing.

The four-day intensive Referee Course was conducted in Paris under the expert leadership of Javier Escalante (Chairman, WKF Referee Commission, Sweden) and Eva Mona Altman (Secretary, WKF Referee Commission, Germany).

The assessment panel included eminent international referees and WKF Referee commission members includes  Mansour Al sultan, Chairman, AKF R.C ( Kuwait) Sensei ( Ms.) Fariba Madani ( U.S.A.), Guido Abdalla ( Guatemala), Yasuhisa Abe ( Japan)

Llewellyn Rhoda ( South Africa),  Ma Junting ( China), Jaber Al Zaabi ( U.A.E.),  and Pinar Guzel Gurbuz from Turkey.

During the course, referees underwent both theoretical and practical evaluations and performed duties as referee, judge, and match supervisor in simulated world championship conditions. Sensei Vij’s outstanding performance earned him the top-level WKF Kumite Referee ‘A’ licence, a testament to his exceptional knowledge, consistency, and composure under pressure.

Following his success, Sensei Jagmohan Vij was also selected to officiate at the World Karate Championship 2025, where he served as Video Review Supervisor, Match Supervisor, Judge, and Referee — representing India at the highest level of international competition.

Sensei Vij has been attending WKF and AKF Referee Courses regularly since 2021, and has already served as a referee at three World Karate Championships held at Konya ( Turkey), Jeselo, Venice ( Italy) and Paris ( France). Known throughout the fraternity for his integrity, discipline, and fairness, he continues to bring pride to India’s karate community.

In recognition of his remarkable achievement, he received special appreciation from Hanshi Bharat Sharma (President, Karate India Organisation). Sensei Shaheen Akhtar, Chairperson South Asian Karate Federation Referee Commission, Sensei Premjeet Sen, R.C. Chairman KIO,
