Floods in several parts of Hoshiarpur brought hardship to many villages, but under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain, the administration has turned the crisis into a movement of service and solidarity. Through the “Charda Suraj Campaign,” the district administration, in collaboration with NGOs and voluntary groups, has ensured organized and compassionate relief operations that are now seen as a model for others.

The Red Cross Society, along with Unnati Cooperative Sabha, Baba Deep Singh Welfare Society, Guru Nanak Sewa Society of Gera village in Mukerian, Doaba Kisan Sangharsh Committee, Humanity First, Sarbat Da Bhala Sewa Society, Gurudwara Chevin Patshahi Pulpukhta, Lions Club Tanda, Paint and Hardware Association, Guru Ramdas Sewa Society and several other social organizations, have been providing langar services, fodder for animals and other essential supplies. Volunteers from Baba Deep Singh Welfare Society and Civil Defence have also worked tirelessly to evacuate residents to safer places.

According to Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain, relief has already reached over 1,225 flood-affected people. In Abdullapur village of Tanda, 375 persons were provided tarpaulins and hygiene kits, while 150 people in Changadwan, 300 in Mehtabpur, 100 in Haled, 200 in Kolian and 100 in Miani Malah also received relief supplies. At the Changadwan relief camp, Unnati Cooperative Sabha arranged three daily meals for 150 affected residents. To prepare for upcoming needs, the Red Cross has stocked 2,000 hygiene kits, tarpaulins, mosquito nets, mattresses and water filters.

Health care has been given special attention, with eight medical camps organized so far, offering medicines and basic diagnostics. Mobile teams continue to visit affected villages to distribute medicines, ORS packets and chlorine tablets, while the health department is maintaining strict surveillance on waterborne and vector-borne diseases. To respond swiftly to any emergency, 16 Rapid Response Teams and 24 mobile teams have been kept on alert across the district.

Our aim is not only to provide relief but also to assure families that the entire administration and community stand with them,” said DC Aashika Jain, adding that the crisis has strengthened the spirit of unity in Hoshiarpur.
