 Punjab Chief Secretary Visits Pong Dam and Reviews Flood Situation at Mukerian

 Directs Pong Dam Authorities to Regulate Water Release on Technical Grounds

Round-the-Clock Relief Operations Underway in Flood-Hit Areas

On the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha on Friday visited Pong Dam and the flood-affected areas of Mukerian sub-division to review the ongoing relief and rescue operations. He was accompanied by Water Resources Principal Secretary Krishan Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain, and SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik.

During his visit to Pong Dam, the Chief Secretary inspected the water level and the current discharge status. He directed dam authorities to regulate the release of water strictly on technical grounds, keeping in view the inflow, so that residents of downstream areas do not face any inconvenience. He further instructed officials to remain vigilant and monitor the situation round-the-clock.

Later, Mr. Sinha visited the dhussi embankment between the flood-affected villages of Haler and Motla in Mukerian. He observed the strengthening works being carried out by the Water Resources Department and assured local residents that the Punjab Government is fully committed to providing them with every possible assistance. He assured them that the Punjab Government stands firmly with the affected people and will provide all possible assistance. The Chief Secretary also reviewed the measures being taken by the district administration to provide relief and rehabilitation.

Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain apprised him that the administration, in collaboration with the Red Cross, NGOs, and volunteers, has been distributing relief material, food, medicines, and other essential supplies to the affected families. She said that teams from Revenue, Health, Animal Husbandry, and Water Resources Departments are deployed round-the-clock in the field to ensure timely assistance.

The top priority of the district administration is to ensure that no affected person is left without food, medical aid, or shelter, she added.

Among those present on the occasion were Chief Engineer Beas Rakesh Gupta, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Nikas Kumar, SP Dr. Mukesh, SDM Mukerian Ankur Mahendru, Superintending Engineer Manmeet Chaudhary, Additional SE A.P.S. Ubhi, XEN Gaurav Lamba, Harpreet Singh along with other senior officials.
