Brigadier Raj Kumar, the newly appointed Chairman of the Gujjar Welfare Board Punjab, was felicitated by the Gujjar community during a sammelan organised by the Gujjar Progressive Group. The event saw a large gathering of panches, sarpanches, numberdars, committee members, and other prominent members of the Gujjar society.Addressing the gathering, Brigadier Raj Kumar expressed pride in his Gujjar identity and the honour of serving his community. He revealed ongoing efforts to include the Gujjar community from the Kandi and Beet areas in the ST category, following the model of neighbouring Himachal Pradesh. "Discussions on this are underway with the minister and around 70 other stakeholders," he said. He also mentioned initiatives to establish a railway station in Balachaur and extend the canal from Ropar to Baddi through talks with the Punjab government.Urging the community to prioritise quality education for their children, he emphasised, "This will brighten their future and elevate the society's reputation." He added that integrity is the greatest asset in life and should be embraced by everyone.Captain Om Prakash Kambala and Sarvan Singh Chechi honoured Brigadier Raj Kumar by adorning him with a special Gujjar pagri, shawl, and memento.
