 UK-Based NGO ‘DAAN’ Donates Lakhs Through Educational and Medical Camp at Sahri High School

The UK-based organization Drug and Alcohol Awareness Network, popularly known as DAAN, has been working for the holistic development of students in government schools across Punjab for the past twelve years through educational and medical outreach programs. Continuing its mission, the organization recently held a two-day educational and medical camp at Government High School, Sahri.Dr. Jaswant Rai, Research Officer from the Language Department, shared that students and teachers from Government Senior Secondary School Ajram, Middle School Kahri, and Elementary Schools of Sahri and Kahri participated—altogether around 470 individuals. All students underwent free medical and eye checkups, and those found in need received corrective spectacles. Twenty-two villagers underwent free cataract surgeries under the initiative.The organization also strengthened educational infrastructure across the participating schools. Government Senior Secondary School Ajram received three laptops, a projector, and a printer; High School Sahri received three laptops, a projector, a printer, and a water cooler; while Middle School Kahri received two laptops, a projector, and a printer. The primary schools in Sahri and Kahri were equipped with one projector each. The Primary School, Sahri, also received Rs 25,000 in cash assistance for bathroom repairs. In addition, six underprivileged students were given bicycles, and three differently-abled persons were provided tricycles.The camp was coordinated by Resham Singh, a native of Sahri village currently residing in the UK and an active member of the organization. Member of Parliament Dr. Raj Kumar attended as the chief guest and applauded the foundation for its remarkable contribution to improving education and health facilities in rural areas. He emphasized that such initiatives have significantly transformed the condition and direction of schools and students in the Doaba region.The organization’s lead representative, Balraj Singh, extended gratitude to the Sahri Gram Panchayat, the family of Resham Singh, and local youth volunteers for their cooperation. DAAN trustees—Dr. Sukhveer Kaur Gill, Advocate Rajeev Sharma, Sukhveer Bhangra, Amarjeet Bhangra, Kalpana, Ajay Mishra, and Resham Singh—honoured Dr. Raj Kumar, heads and teachers of all five government schools, and local dignitaries with mementoes.The village Panchayat, represented by Sarpanch Jasveer Singh Goldy, Lambardars Bharat Lal and Parshotam Singh, also felicitated the organization, Dr. Raj Kumar, and other contributors. Students who excelled in academics, sports, and cultural events were recognized, and all 470 attending students received school bags.The event stood out as a model initiative for the region, leaving a lasting impression within the community. The proceedings were conducted by Dr. Jaswant Rai. Prominent attendees included environmentalist Sant Sukhjeet Singh Seechewal, DSP Dev Dutt Sharma, SHO Gursahib Singh, Manpreet Singh, Santokh Singh, Kamal Verma, Manjit Singh, Abhishek Kumar, Shanu, Joginder Pal, Principal Jagdeep Kaur, Headmaster Surinder Kumar, teachers, students, and local residents.
