 District De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre Hoshiarpur Celebrates ‘Jashn-e-Diwali’ with Enthusiasm

The District De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre, Hoshiarpur, celebrated the festival of lights with great enthusiasm and joy during a special event titled Jashn-e-Diwali.The event was graced by the Chief Guest, the Hon’ble Deputy Commissioner of Hoshiarpur and Chairperson of the District De-addiction & Rehabilitation Society. Civil Surgeon Dr. Balbir Kumar and Dr. Swati Shemar, Deputy Medical Commissioner and Member Secretary of the Society, attended as special guests.The celebrations were organized smoothly under the supervision of Dr. Mahima Manhas, Medical Officer In-Charge, and the DDRC team. The Rotary Club of Hoshiarpur, led by its President, Principal Timatini Ahluwalia, provided refreshments for the patients as a gesture of goodwill.The Deputy Commissioner extended Diwali greetings to the centre and encouraged the patients to stay away from substance abuse and embrace a healthy, meaningful lifestyle. Marking the centre’s completion of 10 successful years, the Deputy Commissioner presented an Award of Appreciation, commending it as one of the best-performing de-addiction centres in the state.Civil Surgeon Dr. Balbir Kumar praised the patients receiving treatment at the facility, calling them true symbols of courage and transformation. “Those with firm determination see obstacles make way for them,” he said, blessing them to live with new hope, new thinking, and a renewed life.Dr. Swati Shemar expressed pride in being part of an institution that has established a distinct identity since its inception. She highlighted that the centre has successfully treated over 3,000 patients and continues to progress steadfastly toward its mission.The event featured a series of engaging competitions for the patients, including rangoli, special tasks, tug-of-war, spoon-and-lemon, musical chairs, solo dance, and bhangra performances. The centre also held diya decoration and painting contests. The creativity displayed in rangoli and decorations captivated all attendees. Winners received medals, while all participants were gifted tokens of appreciation.Also present on the occasion were Rotary Club members Sanjeev Kumar (Secretary), Suman Nayyar, Yogesh Chander, B.S. Bawa, Neena, Rajinder Modigil, and Ravi Jain. Red Cross Secretary Mangesh Sood and Joint Secretary Aditya Rana also participated.From the centre’s team, Manager Nisha Rani, Counselors Sandeep Kumari, Prashant Adya, Vishal Thakur, Staff Nurses Hardeep Kaur and Amandeep Kaur, along with Harish, Alka, Sandeep Pal, Rajni, Rakesh, and Ramandeep, played a key role in making the event a grand success.
