Under the joint initiative of the District Administration and Red Cross Society Hoshiarpur, the ‘Rising Rays – The Young Changemaker’ program was organized on Friday at James Cambridge International School as part of the ‘Chardha Sooraj’ campaign. Deputy Commissioner Ms. Aashika Jain was the chief guest at the event. She was accompanied by ADC (Development) Mr. Nikas Kumar, Assistant Commissioner Ms. Oishee Mandal, CSR heads of various industries, representatives of social organizations, NGOs, school management, teachers, and students.


The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp followed by a spiritually uplifting Ganesh Vandana performed by students of James Cambridge School. Artists from Ankur Theatre presented a powerful street play emphasizing the need for positive societal change through the ‘Chadhda Sooraj’ initiative.


Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain felicitated students for their outstanding contributions in various social fields during their summer vacations. Among those honored were:


Environmental Work: Lovepreet Kaur & Navneet Kaur (Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Bahbal Manj)


Waste Management: Amanat Mehta (St. Joseph’s Convent School)


Water Conservation: Vishwadeep Sharma (Cambridge Overseas School)


Cleanliness: Ishanvi (Dashmesh Public School)


Community Welfare: Charanpreet Kaur (Mount Carmel School)


Relief Work: Sreesha Gupta (Delhi International School)


Education: Mankaran Kaur


Animal & Bird Care: Sukhwinder Kaur, Anjali, and Dilpreet (Govt. High School, Bhikhowal)


All-Rounder: Zorawar Singh (St. Joseph’s Convent School)



In her address, Ms. Jain said that small efforts can bring about big changes in society. She praised students for their involvement in social causes, saying such participation helps youth become more aware of their responsibilities and socially conscious. She emphasized that ‘Chadhda Sooraj’ aims to provide a common platform to individuals and institutions working for positive change. The campaign, supported by Red Cross and led by the district administration, operates as both a digital and social initiative recognizing efforts in fields like environment, health, education, animal welfare, and social justice.


Speaking to the media, she announced that the next phase of the campaign will focus on making the Mata Chintpurni Fair free from single-use plastic and launching an awareness drive for paddy stubble management. She appealed to students and organizations to actively contribute to these efforts.


Special children of the ‘Wings’ Group gave a heart-touching cultural performance that was warmly received by the audience. A specially prepared ‘Chardha Sooraj’ theme song was launched on the LED wall, followed by a mass pledge for social service led by the Deputy Commissioner. The program concluded with an energetic and captivating performance by the James Band, leaving the audience spellbound.


Prominent attendees included DSP Manpreet Sheemar, Civil Surgeon Dr. Pawan Kumar, DDF Ms. Zoya Siddiqui, District Education Officer Ms. Lalita Arora, Red Cross Secretary Mr. Mangesh Sood, Joint Secretary Mr. Aditya Rana, and representatives from Sonalika, Vasal Education Society, Ludhiana Beverages, Vardhman Yarns, Century Plywood, Quantum Paper Mill, GNA Axles, Hawkins, Reliance Industries, Usha Martin, Unnati Cooperative Society, along with officers from various departments.
