Under Punjab Government's special "One day with DC" initiative, Hoshiarpur district's students who secured first, second and third position in class 10th today had a motivating day with Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain. The aim of the new scheme was not only to felicitate the meritorious students but also to introduce them to the ground realities of administrative experience, leadership and public service.
The students were warmly welcomed at DC residence at 7 am. Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain participated in an introduction session with the students and provided insight into She r disciplined daily routine. They had a yoga session with DC and She highlighted the importance of yoga and morning exercise and suggested that the students lead a She althy life and had breakfast with them.
After 9 am, the students were taken for a tour of the District Administrative Complex, where they witnessed at first hand the functioning of various departments, public grievances redressal system and the process of implementing government schemes. Besides this, the students also witnessed a mini development plan meeting, where district development issues were deliberated. They then had lunch with Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain, Additional Deputy Commissioner Nikas Kumar, SDM Hoshiarpur Gursimranjit Kaur, SDM Tanda Parampreet Singh at the services club. In the afternoon, they visited Additional Deputy Commissioner's office and were briefed about the activities done for the development of the rural areas.
In the evening, they visited Digital Library Hoshiarpur and Van Chetna Park Basi Purani, where She was told about the facilities provided in the library as well as engaged with the youth who were studying for competitive exams at the library. There was also an open discussion session between the students and the Deputy Commissioner, where the students were able to share their experiences and listen to motivational thoughts from the DC. The students were honored by Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain by awarding them mementos and wishing them well for the future. The Deputy Commissioner said that this programme not only educated the students about how the government administration functions, but also instilled in them the leadership spirit, discipline and spirit of public service. She said that such programmes like "Ek Din DC Ke Saath" can prove to be a turning point in bringing positive change in the life of the students.
Mehakpreet Kaur, a student of Government Senior Secondary Residential School for Meritorious Talwara, who secured first position, Surekha, a student of Government Senior Secondary Residential School for Meritorious Talwara, who secured second position, and Mantavya Singh, a student of Government Senior Secondary School Attowal, who secured third position, welcomed this initiative of the district administration and expressed that it was a valuable experience, which gave them the chance to learn about the intricacies of administrative process, leadership and public service. Terming this experience unforgettable and inspiring, they expressed that this will be a guiding force for them in deciding the goal of their future. The parents of the children also called it an inspiring initiative for the overall development of the students. District Education Officer Lalita Arora also paid a visit during this time.
