A delegation from Beet area today submitted a memorandum to Naib Tehsildar Kulwinder Singh, in the absence of SDM Garhshankar, highlighting local demands and grievances.

Naib Tehsildar Kulwinder Singh assured the delegation that a meeting would be arranged after December 29 with relevant officials, including those from Himachal Pradesh, to address the issues. He added that copies of the memorandum would be forwarded to the concerned departments. The delegation warned that if solutions were not found within 10 days, residents of Beet area would launch a major agitation.

The memorandum demanded action against overloaded tippers, trolleys, and stubble-laden tractor trailers on key roads from Beet area to Garhshankar, including the Beet-Pozeval road (Sri Anandpur Sahib route), Kokowal Mazari to Garhshankar, Mahindwani to Gadshankar, Jungian to Pozeval, and Jungian to Kahnpur Khui. These vehicles have made life miserable for locals, causing over 18 deaths and frequent traffic jams.

It called for enforcing Deputy Commissioner's orders to restrict their movement between 9 pm and 5 am, setting speed limits, and maintaining a minimum 200-metre distance between vehicles to ensure safety.

The plea also highlighted that roads from Garhshankar to Kokowal Mazari and Dallewal to Sekhowal (Sri Anandpur Sahib route), built about two years ago, lack proper berms on both sides and regular maintenance as per norms.

The road from Mahindwani to Kot is in such poor condition that it is barely visible, making travel nearly impossible; it must be repaired urgently. A link road from Kokowal to Binewal should also be constructed to improve connectivity. Roads damaged by stones during recent elections need pre-mix surfacing immediately.

Further demands included introducing at least one government bus service in the morning and evening for Mahindwani village, 24-hour health services with adequate staff at CHC Binewal, and concretising the road from Jhono wal to Jagatpur Basti with drains on both sides.
