 Speculation Over Hoshiarpur District Division Ends

Rumours regarding a possible bifurcation of Hoshiarpur district were laid to rest with the conclusion of the special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha held at Anandpur Sahib. Chabbewal MLA and Aam Aadmi Party leader Dr. Ishank Kumar confirmed that no such proposal had ever been under the state government’s consideration.In a statement issued on Monday, Dr. Kumar extended his appreciation to the residents of Hoshiarpur, particularly the members of the legal fraternity, for their patience and restraint amid misleading reports. He recalled that representatives of the district’s lawyers had recently called on him, urging him and Hoshiarpur MP Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal to intervene in the matter and ensure that such a proposal did not advance.Dr. Kumar said that he had, at that time, reassured them of full support and conveyed their sentiments directly to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. “I had also clarified that there was no such proposal before the government. Unfortunately, baseless rumours created unnecessary anxiety among people,” he said.He added that both he and the MP had emphasised to the state government that Hoshiarpur remains an integral part of the region’s cultural and emotional identity. Any administrative decision that could damage public sentiment, he noted, should be avoided.Appealing for public restraint, Dr. Kumar urged citizens not to heed unverified information circulating on social media platforms and to rely only on official communication channels. He reiterated that both he and MP Dr. Chabbewal would continue to safeguard the interests of Hoshiarpur and work for the welfare of its residents.
