Opposing what they termed as the Punjab government’s “anti-aided school” policies, aided school teachers, employees, and pensioners across the state have announced a “Jail Bharo Andolan” in Tarn Taran on November 7. On that day, aided school teachers and staff from the district will court arrest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Tarn Taran. An emergency meeting of aided school teachers and employees from Hoshiarpur district was held at the Municipal Park near Arya Samaj, Hoshiarpur, where it was unanimously decided that if the government does not release the salary grant for April to December 2025 by November 6, teachers will stage a massive protest followed by collective arrests on November 7.The decision was endorsed by the State Aided School Teachers’ Association, Aided School Pensioners’ Association, and the Aided School Management Association. In a joint meeting held in Tarn Taran, it was resolved that if no solution emerges by November 6, around 1,700 working and 6,000 retired teachers and employees will court arrest.Movement leaders alleged that this is the first time a government has withheld 95 percent of salary grants for eight months under the pretext of a management audit. Accusing the government of making “false claims of an education revolution,” they said aided school teachers are on the brink of starvation due to non-payment of salaries.Union leaders also warned that if the government refuses to make arrests on November 7, large protest demonstrations will be organized in towns and villages of the Tarn Taran constituency on November 8 and 9. These rallies will inform citizens that nearly 1.76 lakh students are being taught by teachers who have been working without pay for eight months. The leaders further stated that if the government does not withdraw the audit orders and release the grant, all correspondents of aided schools will submit their resignations to the state government. The agitation meeting was attended by state president Gurmeet Singh Madanipur, general secretary Sharanjit Singh Kadimajra, Pensioners’ Association president Gurcharan Singh Chahal, and Management Association president Seva Singh Chawla, along with other office-bearers.
