Former MP Avinash Rai Khanna has recommended to the Central Government that the Balachaur-Hoshiarpur-Dasuya Road be declared a National Highway, following a formal request from the Punjab Government.Jyoti Kumar Jolly from Khanna’s office informed that the Punjab Government, through Ravi Bhagat, State Secretary of the Public Works Department (B&R), has submitted a proposal seeking the declaration of the Balachaur-Hoshiarpur-Dasuya Road as a National Highway. Acting on this request, Khanna has forwarded the letter to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, urging the Centre to expedite the process in the interest of public convenience.It is noteworthy that Khanna had earlier met Gadkari several times to push for this very proposal. However, Gadkari had then remarked that since the road—currently State Highway 24—was under state jurisdiction, no Central action could be taken without an official recommendation from the Punjab Government.Khanna expressed optimism that, now that the Punjab Government has formally requested the road’s conversion into a National Highway, the Central Government will act swiftly to begin the process.
