 88,977 Metric Tonnes of Paddy Arrive in Hoshiarpur Mandis; 88,384 Metric Tonnes Procured So Far

Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain stated that a total of 88,977 metric tonnes of paddy have so far arrived in the district’s mandis, out of which 88,384 metric tonnes have been procured.Giving further details, the Deputy Commissioner informed that Pangrain has procured 39,542 metric tonnes, PUNSUP 16,308 metric tonnes, Punjab State Warehousing Corporation 8,288 metric tonnes, FCI 333 metric tonnes, and private traders 448 metric tonnes of paddy. So far, an amount of ₹163.52 crore has been transferred directly into the accounts of farmers.Appealing to the farmers, Jain urged them to bring only dry paddy to the mandis, reminding that the Punjab Government has fixed the moisture limit for procurement at 17 percent. She asked farmers to ensure the crop is thoroughly dried before being brought for sale. She was addressing a meeting convened to review the ongoing paddy procurement process in the district.The Deputy Commissioner assured that no farmer or stakeholder would face difficulties during the procurement season. She directed officials to make farmers fully aware of the procedures to ensure hassle-free selling of their produce.Jain emphasized that the entire procurement process must strictly follow the rules and guidelines set by the state government. She reiterated the government’s commitment to purchase every grain of the hard-earned produce harvested by farmers.She also advised farmers to carry out harvesting using combine harvesters only between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to prevent excess moisture in the crop. The use of Super SMS attachments on combines is mandatory, she added, clarifying that no combine harvester without this equipment would be permitted to operate in the district.Urging farmers not to burn stubble, Jain warned that stubble burning harms the environment and reduces soil fertility. She encouraged farmers to adopt proper residue management techniques and contribute towards protecting the environment.
