 Poet Thakur Das Aidil’s Poetry Book ‘Dalitnama’ Released by Baljinder Maan

The poetry book ‘Dalitnama’ by the late renowned poet Thakur Das Aidil of village Mahimdanwal Kalan was formally released by noted children’s literature author Baljinder Maan at a special ceremony organized by the Sur Sangam Educational Trust.

While addressing the gathering, Baljinder Maan shared that it was poet Thakur Das Aidil’s impactful writing, especially his first piece ‘Mazdoor Di Zindagi’ (The Life of a Laborer), that deeply influenced him during his childhood and inspired him to pursue poetry. He praised Aidil’s lifelong dedication to representing the voice of laborers and the working class through powerful and meaningful poetry. His poems, Maan said, are both inspirational and educational, and his recitations always left audiences spellbound, making him one of the prominent stage poets of his era.

Maan also appreciated the ongoing efforts by Aidil’s family, particularly his son Balbir Singh, to preserve and honor his literary legacy.

Presiding over the ceremony were Dr. Jaswant Singh Thind (SMO Mahilpur), farmer leader Talwinder Heer, manager Devraj Parmar, administrator Ram Teerath, chairman Gurdeep Chand, Dr. Omkar Singh, and Kulvir Khatkar. They all expressed pride in Thakur Das Aidil, describing him not only as a respected literary figure but also as a social reformer who empowered the Dalit community with dignity and the strength to fight for their rights.

Balbir Singh Puar, son of the poet and President of the Pensioners Union Punjab, traveled from Jalalabad (Fazilka) to attend the event. While sharing emotional memories of his father, he announced efforts to establish a memorial in his honor in their native village, Mahimdanwal Kalan.

The event was attended by village sarpanch Gurjit Singh, Amarjeet Singh, Bhinda, Gurdeep Chand, Harveer Maan, Sahil Parmar, Harjinder Singh, Rahul Kumar, Som Nath, and many literature enthusiasts and villagers.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Gurdeep Chand extended heartfelt thanks to all and assured full public support in building the proposed memorial for the poet.
