The ancient religious town of Pehowa is home to the sacred Saraswati Tirth, where the spiritual and historical legacy of Gangaram Ji Gaddi continues to resonate even today. At this revered site, senior journalist Daljeet Ajnoha held a special interaction with the chief priest of Saraswati Tirth, Deepak Shastri, to gain detailed insights into its ancient traditions, historical significance, and ritual practices.
The mukhya Purohit stated that since ancient times, this holy site has been especially renowned for performing rituals for those who suffered an untimely death. The tradition of pind daan (offering rituals for departed souls) and shraddha ceremonies has been practiced here for centuries. It is widely believed that performing these rituals with proper विधि (rites) grants peace, spiritual progression, and ultimately salvation (moksha) to the departed soul.
According to religious beliefs, during the Treta Yuga, Bhagwan Rama performed the shraddha rites for his father Raja Dasharatha at this very sacred site after his untimely demise. This reference is associated with the epic Ramayana. Since then, the tradition of performing pind daan and shraddha at Pehowa has continued uninterrupted. Devotees firmly believe that rituals performed at this sacred tirth yield manifold spiritual benefits.
Another mythological account connects the site to the Dwapar Yuga, when Lord Krishna is believed to have brought the Pandavas here to perform the last rites for the souls of the Kauravas who perished in the war described in the epic Mahabharata. This association further enhances the spiritual importance of the pilgrimage center.
The chief priest informed that a large number of devotees from across India and abroad visit the site to perform pind daan and shraddha for the peace of their ancestors’ souls. On special occasions such as Amavasya (new moon), Pitru Paksha, and other religious observances, the sacred town witnesses a massive influx of pilgrims.
Senior journalist Daljeet Ajnoha remarked that the historical and spiritual background of this tirth reconnects society with its cultural roots. He described it as a living symbol of Indian civilization and Sanatan tradition.
The ancient Saraswati Tirth of Pehowa stands not only as a center of religious faith but also as an invaluable treasure of India’s mythological heritage and cultural legacy, continuing to flourish with devotion, belief, and timeless tradition.
