 DM Imposes Restrictions on Weapons, Gatherings in Hoshiarpur

District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain has invoked powers under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, to impose various restrictions across the district.The orders prohibit anyone within district limits from carrying weapons to public meetings, religious sites, wedding parties, marriage palaces, or other gatherings. Displaying weapons publicly or on social media is fully banned, as is playing songs that promote weapons or violence. Legal action will follow any violations. Marriage palace owners must ensure no weapons are used during events.Village panchayats have been directed to enforce night patrols (thikri pehra) in groups of villages to prevent incidents by anti-social elements.Illegal hookah bars are banned district-wide, as they involve tobacco, cigarettes, and harmful chemicals that endanger health and society.Unauthorized storage, transportation, use, or sale of semen is also prohibited, with exemptions for authorized entities like veterinary institutions under the Animal Husbandry Department Punjab, Milkfed, College of Veterinary Science at GADVASU Ludhiana's artificial insemination centres, and progressive dairy farm association members using imported bovine semen solely for their animals.Without SDM permission, no processions, gatherings of five or more people, sloganeering, or carrying lathis, unlicensed arms, sharp knives, etc., are allowed. Exemptions apply to government events, conferences, and meetings. Political parties must obtain written SDM approval for rallies or public meetings.These orders remain in effect until March 7, 2026.
