In a brief interaction with social worker Sanjeev Kumar, Amit Kumar IAS, Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, outlined major ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening public welfare and improving city infrastructure. He said the MCC, in coordination with the Chandigarh Administration and Smart City Mission, is focused on cleaner surroundings, better civic services, and a more citizen-friendly urban environment.
Amit Kumar emphasized the Corporation’s push for improved waste management through household-level segregation, new waste processing facilities, and the remediation of the Daddu Majra dump site. He added that MCC’s MoU with Indian Oil Corporation for an organic waste-based biogas plant marks a significant step toward sustainable waste solutions.
Speaking on animal welfare, he noted that the MCC is identifying over 200 feeding points for community dogs and developing a modern dog shelter in Sector 25 to strengthen Animal Birth Control and vaccination efforts. Newly notified dog bylaws aim to ensure responsible pet ownership.
The Commissioner also highlighted key Smart City and infrastructure upgrades, including the 24×7 water supply pilot in Manimajra, STP upgradation, night shelters, rain shelters, public bike sharing, and improved e-governance through the Integrated Command and Control Centre.
Sanjeev Kumar appreciated Amit Kumar’s proactive approach, noting that these initiatives collectively enhance Chandigarh’s vision as a cleaner, safer, and more progressive “City Beautiful.”
