Panic gripped the main market on Phagwara Road in Mahilpur town, Hoshiarpur district, when three masked youths robbed a money changer at gunpoint and fled with lakhs in cash.Shop owner Vijay Kumar recounted that the robbers arrived on a motorcycle in the evening, brandished pistols, and threatened: "Hand over all the cash or we'll shoot you." As he reached for his neck (where he kept the money), the assailants shoved him aside, grabbed the entire stash from around his neck, and escaped.Word of the daring heist spread quickly through the market, prompting traders to rush to the spot and attempt to chase the fleeing robbers, but they vanished. The victim called Mahilpur police station to report the incident, only to find their phone switched off. Frustrated, he remarked, "If even the police phone is off, what hope is there for ordinary citizens?" He warned that unless the robbers are arrested soon, the entire Mahilpur town would shut down in protest tomorrow morning.When contacted, Station House Officer Madan Singh stated that upon learning of the pistol-point robbery, his team immediately reached the scene and launched a pursuit. "The culprits will be nabbed shortly, and further action will follow," he assured.
