Complete Ban on Manufacturing, Selling, Storing, and Buying Synthetic Kite Strings in Hoshiarpur

Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha/Dec.11 District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain has imposed a complete ban on the manufacturing, sale, storage, purchase, and supply of kite strings made from nylon or synthetic plastic within the district boundaries. This order has been issued under the provisions of Section 163 of the Indian Civil Protection Code, 2023, and will remain in effect until February 9, 2026. The ban does not apply to traditional cotton threads. The order states that the kite strings currently in use are made of synthetic plastic instead of cotton. These strings are very strong, non-degradable, and unbreakable, posing serious risks. They cause severe cuts to the hands and fingers of kite flyers and have led to incidents where two-wheeler riders sustained neck and ear injuries. Additionally, birds often get entangled and die due to these strings. The carcasses remain hanging on trees, causing foul odor and environmental pollution.Considering these dangers to human life and wildlife, the district administration deemed it necessary to prohibit the storage, sale, and purchase of synthetic or plastic kite strings to ensure public safety and protect the environment.
