Reinforcing the Punjab government’s ongoing mission against substance abuse, a special training session for Village Defence Committees was organised at DAV Senior Secondary School, Hoshiarpur, under the state-wide campaign “War Against Drugs.” Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gursimranjit Kaur attended the event as the chief guest and called for collective community action to build a drug-free society.Speaking on the occasion, SDM Gursimranjit Kaur described drug addiction as a grave social evil that undermines not only the individual’s well-being but also the health and harmony of families and communities. She stressed that safeguarding the youth from this menace must be seen as a shared responsibility of citizens, police, local administration, and social organizations.Highlighting the importance of sustained awareness, the SDM said that the success of the government’s anti-drug campaign depends on active public participation. She urged members of the Village Defence Committees to spread awareness in their localities, keep vigilant watch on illicit drug-related activities, and cooperate closely with law enforcement agencies. “Our goal is not merely to stop the spread of narcotics but to empower youth to pursue meaningful goals in education, sports, and employment,” she said.DSP Dev Datt Sharma reiterated the police’s continued crackdown on drug traffickers and appealed to the public to share any credible information that may help curb the supply chain at its root.Satwant Singh Siyan, District Coordinator of the Anti-Drug Front, echoed these sentiments, noting that a prosperous and healthy society can only thrive when young people remain free from drugs and channel their energy toward constructive endeavors. Assembly Coordinator Kanchan Deol also addressed the participants, while several members of the Anti-Drug Front were in attendance.
