In a significant move toward environmental sustainability, the District Administration of Hoshiarpur today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bengaluru-based not-for-profit organization, Centre for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP). The collaboration aims to develop a comprehensive roadmap to transform Hoshiarpur into a Net-Zero and Climate-Resilient City.
Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain described the partnership as a historic step toward achieving sustainable development in the district. She informed that under this initiative, CSTEP will prepare a detailed Climate Action Plan for Hoshiarpur, which will include a digital survey and solar rooftop potential mapping. Through this digital mapping, the solar energy potential of various buildings across the city will be accurately assessed, paving the way for enhanced solar power adoption in the future.
DC Jain added that the district administration’s goal is to make Hoshiarpur Punjab’s first climate-resilient model district in the coming years. This project will enhance energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and contribute significantly to environmental conservation, she said.
Highlighting the importance of community participation, Jain stated that this initiative will not only help tackle climate change but also encourage the citizens of Hoshiarpur to adopt cleaner, greener, and more sustainable lifestyles.
Assistant Commissioner Oishee Mandal, who was also present at the occasion, appreciated the initiative, calling it a commendable step toward ensuring a sustainable environment for future generations. From CSTEP, Saptak Ghosh and other team members were also present during the MoU signing.
