VRHF Delegation Meets Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat
Demands Official Government Celebrations for 650th Birth Anniversary of Guru Ravidas
New Delhi / Daljeet Ajnoha/June 21
A delegation from the British Ravidassia Heritage Foundation (VRHF), led by International President Om Prakash Bagha and Indian Chapter National President Rajesh Bagha (former Chairman, Punjab Scheduled Castes Commission and Vice President, BJP Punjab), met with Hon’ble Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, to demand official celebrations of the 650th birth anniversary of Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidas Ji.
During the meeting, the delegation submitted a memorandum to the Minister. The memorandum stated that the British Ravidassia Heritage Foundation, a global, non-political, and social organization, seeks due recognition of Guru Ravidas Ji’s teachings and contributions at both national and international levels.
The key demand presented was the formation of a National Committee by the Government of India to coordinate official programs throughout the year under the Guru Ravidas Aaradh Janm Shatabdi Samaroh.
The organization expressed full support for such initiatives and suggested that programs also be organized internationally. It was proposed that the Ministry of External Affairs instruct Indian embassies and consulates to hold celebratory events globally.
The delegation also demanded that, in view of Guru Ravidas Ji’s historic visit to Tughlaqabad, the area be renamed "Begumpura". Additionally, it was suggested that Jahapanah Park in Tughlaqabad be renamed "Guru Ravidas Vatika".
Another key demand was to rename the Adampur Airport in Punjab after Guru Ravidas Ji – a promise made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an election campaign.
The delegation also called for the establishment of a "Guru Ravidas Central University".
Om Prakash Bagha and Rajesh Bagha expressed confidence that, just as the contributions of great saints and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar have been recognized at the national level under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Guru Ravidas Ji’s 650th birth anniversary will also be commemorated with historical significance.
They also extended an invitation to the Hon’ble Minister to attend the Global Summit being organized by the foundation later this year in London.
The Hon’ble Minister assured the delegation that their demands would be conveyed to the appropriate platform within the Central Government and appreciated the efforts of VRHF in spreading Guru Ravidas Ji’s teachings to the masses.
