Deputy Commissioner appealed to the residents of the district to avoid rumors and cooperate

Gurdaspur, 30 May 2025 (keshav vardaan Punj) - As per the instructions given by the Government of India and the Government of Punjab under 'Operation Shield', the district administration will conduct a mock drill of blackout across the district on 31 May from 8:00 pm to 8:30 pm. While giving information regarding this, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Dalwinderjit Singh said that this mock drill is a routine exercise, aimed at checking and strengthening the preparations of civil security (civil defense).

They said that the district administration will first conduct a emergency situation exercise at Bus Stand Gurdaspur on 31 May at 6:00 pm, with teams of District Administration, Punjab Homeguard, Civil Defence Volunteer, N. C. C. Cadets, Health Department, Fire Brigade and Police Department will participate.

They said that sirens will be sounded in various cities across the district at 8:00 p.m. on May 31, 2025, signaling the start of mock drills to the public. There will be a complete blackout in the entire district from 8:00 pm to 8:30 pm. They said that during the same time, the residents of all villages of the district will also voluntarily hold a complete blackout.

They clarified that the mock drill is merely a pre-scheduled exercise and urged the people not to spread any rumours or panic. They said citizens should participate peacefully while cooperating in the mock drill.

The deputy commissioner said that inverters and generators of homes should be kept off during the blackout period. If they have to be turned on for necessary reasons, ensure the light does not go out of the window or door. They said there were solar lights during this time. C. T. V lights and commercial sign board lights should also be turned off.

Those commerce, shopkeepers, banks, a. T. Em centres and mobile tower operators were urged to keep all outdoor and automatic lighting systems off during this time to ensure complete darkness. Meanwhile, hospitals and other emergency services providers were also appealed to cover windows and luminaires with curtains and black paper if it is not possible to switch off their lights, so that no ray of light is emitted. They said that along with the Civil Defence, as well as the district's social organisations, voluntary organisations which have previously supported the administration, have been urged to take lead involvement this time too. They said all relevant departments will have to remain present during the mock drill to ensure handling of any kind of situation.
