Sanjha Punjab Celebrates Lohri with Grandeur in New York

Sanjha Punjab organization marked the Lohri festival—symbolizing the unity of rising Punjab and resident Punjab—with remarkable splendor under the leadership of its founder, Dr. Gurinder Pal Singh Josan. All organization representatives donned traditional Punjabi attire, singing folk songs and reciting the legend of Dulla Bhatti around a bonfire. They savored jaggery, peanuts, rewri, gachak, bhuga, and sweet rice made from sugarcane ("Poh Rini te Magh Khadi"), transforming American soil into ancient Punjab.Rising Punjab members— Manjeet Kaur (police officer), Palwinder Kaur Bhatti, Gurpreet Kaur, and Surinder Kaur Gill—arranged an authentic Punjabi feast featuring makki di roti, sarson da saag, palak, rice, mishe paranthas, jalebis, halwa, chickpeas, alongside American dishes.Singer Simmi Kaur and Preet Kaur joined all Punjabi women in lively Lohri songs, creating a joyful atmosphere. Dr. Josan and the organization honored newly elected president Surjeet Singh Gill and vice-president Arshad Gill. President Gill awarded Sikhs-in-America medals to Manjeet Kaur, Palwinder Kaur Bhatti, and new director Jaswinder Singh Varraich.The event also celebrated Youth Wing member Gurshirat Kaur's birthday with cake-cutting. Live coverage was expertly handled by Preetnama Television and Akhbar's Preetpal Kaur Preet. Sanjha Punjab appointed young Saeed Musa Bukhari, new director for resident Punjab, as Youth Wing chairman. Organization representatives Prithipal Singh Bhatti, Balvir Singh, and Simarjeet Kaur thanked the guests.Dr. Josan announced that the organization will celebrate the Punjabi New Year on March 19, 2026, at a government hall with high pomp, as per annual tradition.
