As part of the *British Army India Heritage Visit 2025*, a delegation led by **Major Munish Chauhan**, General Surgery Registrar in the British Army and Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Army Leadership, together with **Major General John Kendall**, visited the **Saragarhi Gurdwara and Museum in Firozpur** to pay tribute to the legendary heroes of the Battle of Saragarhi.
During the visit, the delegation was honoured to be received by **Mr Partap Singh Bajwa**, Senior Congress Leader and Member of the Punjab Legislative Assembly. Mr Bajwa warmly welcomed the team and shared his reflections on the historic bravery of the 21 Sikh soldiers of the 36th Sikh Regiment, who fought to their last stand at Saragarhi on 12 September 1897.
*“The courage of the 21 Sikh soldiers at Saragarhi stands as one of the finest examples of valour and sacrifice in military history,”* said Mr Bajwa. *“It is heartening to see the British Army honouring this shared heritage and recognising the profound role played by Indian soldiers in shaping our collective past.”*
The British Army delegation paid floral tributes and spent time reflecting on the extraordinary leadership, resilience, and brotherhood that defined the Saragarhi heroes. Speaking on the occasion, **Major Munish Chauhan** remarked, *“Saragarhi is more than a story of courage; it is a story of conviction, unity, and duty against overwhelming odds. These men stood firm in the face of certain death—an act of pure leadership and moral strength that continues to inspire soldiers across generations.”*
**Major General John Kendall** added, *“This visit symbolises our deep respect for the shared military history between India and the United Kingdom. The legacy of the Sikh soldiers at Saragarhi continues to inspire values of courage, integrity, and selfless service that define our armed forces today.”*
The **India Heritage Visit 2025** is part of the British Army’s wider **Defence Engagement Programme**, focused on strengthening cultural understanding and honouring the service and sacrifice of Indian soldiers who fought with exceptional bravery during the World Wars and beyond.
