Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain has informed that a proposal has been sent by the Punjab Government to the Central Government to declare the 'Balachaur-Hoshiarpur-Dasuya' road as a National Highway. This proposal is a result of the continuous efforts made by Hoshiarpur MP Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal and Punjab Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker Jai Krishan Singh Rouri.

In letters written by both leaders, they highlighted the growing importance of this road and the urgent need for its widening to accommodate increasing traffic.

According to the proposal, this 104.96-kilometer-long road (State Highway-24) runs from Balachaur through Hoshiarpur to Dasuya and serves as a crucial link connecting various districts of Punjab. The road currently experiences high traffic flow and is heavily used by industrial units, transporters, and daily commuters. However, its limited width causes frequent congestion, accidents, and delays in transportation.

The Punjab Government emphasized that if this road is granted National Highway status and subsequently widened, it will not only enhance road safety but also facilitate smoother transportation, benefit trade and industry, and improve connectivity for the public. The road also holds strategic importance, as it connects Northern Punjab with key industrial centers and would strengthen interstate connectivity.

The proposal also mentions that, based on field reports, the current traffic volume on this road is approximately 23,198 PCUs (Passenger Car Units), which qualifies it for four-laning under the guidelines of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The road’s total length is 104.96 kilometers, with a current carriageway width of 10 meters.

Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain further stated that she had also written a letter on March 19, 2025, requesting the declaration of this road as a National Highway. Considering the strategic significance and present-day requirements, she strongly recommended that this road be granted National Highway status at the earliest to expedite its development process.
