In wake of aggression at borders, a complete blackout mock drill will be carried out at Nawanshahr city area on Wednesday from 8 pm to 9 pm. The PSPCL will cut the power supply before 8:00 pm and resume the same after an hour.
Holding a meeting with all stakeholders in this regard, Deputy Commissioner Ankurjeet Singh and SSP Dr. Mehtab Singh urged the citizens to ensure strict compliance of black out mockdrill by switching off all sorts of lights. He said that a siren would be blown loudly around 7:55 pm as well as making public announcements from religious places so that the people could be sensitized about the blackout drill.
The mock drill is just a preparatory exercise so as to tackle any untoward situation in case of exigency, said Deputy Commissioner adding that there is no need to be panicked at all. He urged the residents to extend fulsome support and coordination in compliance of black out in the larger public and national security interest. The blackout will remain enforced for an hour from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm so people are requested to switch off all lights, avoid using generator sets, power backup systems, torches, candles, or matchsticks, and remain indoors during the drill, he added.
The members of social, religious, market associations and traders organisations etc attended the meeting and assured that the blackout will be observed in letter and spirit.
